Is a method to dilate the narrowed blood vessel i.e. remove the block. A balloon is placed across the narrowed part and inflated to widen the artery. Then a metallic stent is placed in that position to prevent artery from closing. This is done through the easy artery at the wrist under local anesthesia.
This is done to find out about the blocks in the blood vessels supplying the heart. A long tube or catheter is inserted into the radial artery at the wrist and placed at the mouth of the coronary artery and a dye injected to show the blocks inside the vessel.
We do permanent pacing of the heart with the impulse generator kept under the skin on the chest wall with the pacing leads kept inside the heart chambers. Heart Failure Pacemakers(CRT) are also inserted similarly to improve the heart function.
We have facilities for immediate pacing for patients with heart blocks, symptomatic slow heart rates, esp which occurs with a heart attack. The pacemaker is kept outside the body with pacing leads positioned in the ventricular chamber of the heart to pass electrical impulses to keep the heart beating.
Hypertension is a silent killer and can result in stroke, heart failure, heart attack, blood vessel disease, eye and kidney damage.
94% of high BP cases are without a cause. 2% are due to kidney disease 2% due to blood vessel diseases. The remaining are due to hormones and other rare causes. Thickening of arteries, diabetes, high cholesterol, high salt intake, aging, stress can contribute to Hypertension.
Ideal BP is 120/80 mm Hg. A BP of less than 130/80 mm Hg can be taken as good control.
We concentrate on these patients to achieve ideal control. We monitor these patients throughout the day with Ambulatory BP monitor to see if they are under good control.
A Computerized log of patient BP recordings with a graph is available for easy monitoring.
Heart failure is the result of most heart diseases. Shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling of both legs, palpitations, abdominal distension and can produce liver and kidney failure. New forms of treatment are available including drugs, pacemaker treatment, assist devices.
